Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope this finds you well and that you enjoyed a lovely Easter. I have a couple of updates for you in preparation for our return on Monday - I'd be grateful if you could share these with your son/daughter.

Staffing Update

We said farewell to Mr Trudgett and Ms Inger at the end of term, so now we welcome Ms Browning and Ms Bodkin to our science department. Ms Browning, you may well remember, left us last Easter to go travelling, but for obvious reasons wasn't able to fulfil her plans. We are delighted she is able to re-join us. Ms Bodkin joins us as a chemistry specialist from a very high performing school and will be a real asset to the team. Mr Broad (former Liskeard student) has been appointed as our new Head of Science, but won't be starting until September. In the meantime, Mr Inger is stepping up as Acting Head of Science for the remainder of the academic year.

Dear Parents/Carers,

Team Liskeard

What a strange and, at times, difficult term. In the last three months we have navigated our way through Lockdown 3, with teachers and students learning how to use Microsoft Teams; we've welcomed students back into school through our re-connect meetings; we've been re-establishing our routines and expectations and re-building students' confidence; students have learnt how to test themselves for Covid; teachers have been working out how to ensure the grades to be awarded for GCSEs and A Levels will be fair for all; we've held virtual parents' evenings, and, of course, we have been continuing to promote and recognise courage, resilience and kindness whenever we can.

Dear Parents and Carers of Year 11 and Year 13 Students,

This year, as you know, GCSE and A level examinations have been cancelled and your child will be awarded a grade based on a system set out by the Department for Education and the Examination Boards.

In this letter we hope to explain how this process will work and we invite you to please email us with any further questions that you may have at GCSE and A level examinations are a major milestone in your child’s life and it is important that the whole process is conducted fairly and with the correct gravitas.

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been so amazing to see the students back in school. We have had excellent attendance and the feeling around school has been overwhelmingly positive.

Talking of positivity, we have been 'praising the positive' as much as we can to help re-build students' confidence and engagement. We have never before issued so many merits and awarded so many certificates. If your child has received merits or any certificates, please do congratulate them for their efforts.

Dear Parents/Carers,

We had amazing attendance yesterday and despite the horrible weather there was a lovely atmosphere in school. To help further ensure the safety of our community, please can I ask that you to read the important information below about the next phase of the Covid testing programme.

Testing for Covid at Home

Tomorrow, the students will be issued with some Covid Home Test Kits. Students will watch a training video tomorrow and 99% of them were shown how to complete the tests when they came in earlier this week. However, students will also be given a really good and easy to follow instruction booklet should you need help. The following demonstration video is also available on our website: How to do a COVID-19 Self Test

The stocks we have has enabled us to supply Y7 - 11 students enough tests to last until Easter. Sixth form will be issued with their first 3 tests and will be issued more shortly.
