LiskeardRadioLogoLiskeard Radio is a community radio station covering Liskeard and the surrounding areas of South East Cornwall (Looe, Saltash. Torpoint, Lostwithiel, St Austell).

It is staffed entirely by volunteers, with an aim to bring listeners up to date with local news and information and to entertain them with a wide range of music, live music performances, radio plays, comedy sketch shows, news of local events and more.

Liskeard School and Community College's Katie Lockley, co-presenter of the Teenage Takeover show has written a review of her experience:

Liskeard radio station broadcasts local news and music in Liskeard and the surrounding area of South East Cornwall. For the past three years Liskeard students have been working with the station to broadcast shows. We have found that the environment and people working there are welcoming while still maintaining a very professional set up. In our most recent session in December, during Covid, they were taking precautions to make sure it was as safe as possible to use the studio. For example, all surfaces were being wiped down regularly and a limited amount of people were allowed in the building at a time. Health and safety was being taken seriously to allow the radio to carry on and keep people well. The radio is, as I believe, very important in times like these as it gives us a sense of escapism from our current climate but also keeps us informed of recent updates.

I was lucky enough to work on Liskeard Radio on several shows with friends, Charlotte and Darren, for Teenage Takeover. I worked as a co-host and presented sessions that will contribute towards my Gold Arts Leaders course. Every Friday for a few weeks, we discussed multiple themes: from addressing relevant, current topics to light-hearted and fun concepts like zombie apocalypses! In 2020 we were supported by DJ, Danny Smith, who controlled the advertisements and playing our song suggestions which was very helpful and allowed our time there to run more smoothly, as in the past we have had to do our own sound engineering. I was lucky enough to gain some training from Dean Moore, one of the founders of Liskeard Radio, who had helped with Liskeard School Radio in year 10/11 and in sixth form. He came into school to talk about his job experiences and how Liskeard Radio came about. He discovered it was his true passion after he DJ’d at an event, and he helped set up Liskeard Radio Station to fulfil that dream and also provide a new service to our local town. I gained new knowledge from him of how to remain professional and speak to listeners as well as co-hosts. It was an incredible experience working with everyone there and I hope to do so again.

There are a range of shows on Liskeard Radio,  presented to suit many ages with live music performances, radio plays, comedy sketch shows and news of local events. Tune into Liskeard radio 87.7FM which is now live online 24 hours a day, accessible through their website.

As a school we really appreciate the positive support and all the great work that Liskeard Radio have done with our students; they have been absolutely brilliant and we can't thank them enough.
