Liskeard School & Community College recently welcomed local candidates to take part in a hustings event in their sixth form centre in the build up to the General Election.  Sheryll Murray of the Conservatives, Phil Hutty of the Liberal Democrats, Andrew Long from Mabyon Kernow, Martin Corney from the Green Party and Martin Menear representing Labour took part in an hour long session in the Sixth Form Common Room with students from years 10 to 13.

On Friday the 23rd of January Liskeard School & Community College Sixth Form had the pleasure of meeting Jason Beattie, who is the political editor for The Mirror newspaper. He spoke to Years 12 and 13 students about his role at the paper and experiences, and about current political affairs.

We are thrilled to announce that our 6th form students have been formally recognised for their excellent performance this year. Student performance at A Level has been rated as being in the top 25% in England! Particular recognition has to go to the Maths students and staff who achieved 58% A*/A putting us as one of the best providers in the country (ALPS grade 1). The success of these results combined with the outstanding advice and guidance provided by our experienced tutor team has enabled all but one of our students to gain their first choice university place.

Although this year has witnessed many changes in the educational world our students and teachers have faced the challenges with their usual enthusiasm which has produced a great deal of success. Many of our students will now be going to university, taking up apprenticeships or joining the world of work.

The Football Academy has gone from strength to strength this year. The students involved have been a credit to themselves as they have had the thirst to learn and as a result each individual has improved their performances by a significant amount. For instance, at the start of the season our players did not appear comfortable on the ball and when the opposition applied a little bit of it would result in them kicking the ball aimlessly and more often than not it went out of touch. However, they showed the desire to improve and we are delighted with how they have progressed.
