Liskeard Sixth Form were delighted to welcome local Olympic diver Sarah Barrow to deliver a motivational talk to students in Year 12.

Sarah, born in Plymouth, shared her story of how she achieved her goals to become an Olympic athlete. Sarah was able to set herself individual goals which led her to compete in the London Olympics, coming fifth in the 10m Synchronised Diving and showing resilience in her battle against injury to compete in the 2016 Rio Olympics. The diver also won gold in the 2012 European Championships in the same event and in the 2014 Championships in the 10m Platform.

The National Citizen Service, the UK’s flagship youth programme for 16 and 17 year olds, has again named Liskeard School and Community College a ‘Champion School’ after being selected from thousands of schools participating across the country. The school has excelled at motivating students to take up extracurricular activities, specifically encouraging young people to attend the four week programme during their holidays, leading to an increased interest in volunteering.

Although this year has witnessed many changes in the educational world our students and teachers have faced the challenges with their usual enthusiasm.

Gill Prichard, Director of Sixth Form said ‘What an exceptional year. Our students have excelled themselves. Amid all the constant alterations in the exam process they have risen to the ever increasing demands and exceeded our expectations. I am so proud of them and wish them all the best in their future plans.’

Liskeard School and Community College has had a facelift - a partial facelift, that is! Its Sixth Form has been rebranded to emphasize its status as a community college and to make it distinguishable from the rest of the school. Head Teacher, Alex Lingard, said "Although the name Liskeard School and Community College says we are both a School and a College we wanted to create something more visual to show that they are different. I'm absolutely delighted with the outcome."

Liskeard Sixth Form held their annual Summer Ball recently to celebrate the students’ time at Liskeard and say farewell before the start of their new journey. The ball took place at St Mellion Golf and Country Club in Saltash, which proved to be a delightful setting for the staff and students.

The year 12 and 13 students enjoyed the warm summer evening and were able to enjoy the picturesque setting of St Mellion on the balcony, which provided a great backdrop for photos to remember their time at Sixth Form and the wonderful people they shared it with. The Belle of the Ball was Lydia Bridges and the Beau was Jordan Dobson.
