Hannah Pollard, a student at Liskeard Sixth Form, was awarded her Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award at Buckingham Palace recently. The Olympic champion Greg Rutherford was an inspirational speaker at this event and he explained how sport had changed his outlook on life and linked it to the influence of scouting and how this association is so worthwhile for youngsters.

His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh and the Earl and Countess of Wessex were also at the presentation.

Hannah has been involved in a variety of volunteering, from helping local children in the village chapel, to assisting in expeditions to Uganda and India.

She has taken all of the challenges in her stride and when interviewed said

“I have had such a wonderful time whilst completing these awards and I will never forget the amazing experiences and interesting people that I have met along the way’.

Hannah is now supporting other students who are aiming to achieve their gold award.
