Liskeard Sixth Form student Luke Moynan, along with two other members of the Youth Parliament in Cornwall and constituents from each part of the UK, travelled to London to discuss key issues affecting young people.  Four major issues were discussed, debated and voted on including student transport, the voting age, curriculum for life and work experience hubs. The youth parliament had to vote on which two issues to campaign for from January next year, resulting in a campaign for lowering the voting age and imposing a ‘curriculum for life’.

Liskeard Sixth Form debating team had the opportunity to put their skills to the test at a regional forum of the European Youth Parliament in Exeter, alongside other schools from the South West. Students were given issues to research and resolutions to explore leading up to the event and there was an opportunity for all team members to participate and give speeches in the debates, as well as voicing their own opinions. Much to the team’s delight, Liskeard won the competition and advanced to the Nationals.

Liskeard Sixth Form Football Academy continued their incredible success by winning the first ever small-sided tournament for teams involved in the Plymouth Argyle Football Education Programme.

In a fantastic day of football, and a break from the normal routine of a highly competitive 11-a-side Satellite League, Liskeard came through with some terrific performances in the frenetic format of a tournament held over the course of one day.

At the end of term, Liskeard School & Community College students Josh Conway, Lissie Boney and Toby Cogan raised money for their ‘Camps International Trip’ to Ecuador by running a Halloween disco for students in year 7 and 8.

The New Hall was filled with music and lights as students danced the night away in a terrifying selection of amazing Halloween costumes. Teachers Mrs Kelly and Mrs Dove even joined in with costumes of their own.  In addition to the music there were activities for the students to try including pinning the nose on the witch, the slime experience and apple bobbing.

Liskeard School A-Level Results 2017

This year our A level students have achieved outstanding results with three quarters of the results within the A* to C grade boundaries and an overall 99.9% pass rate. Our vocational courses have had a 100% success rate with several candidates obtaining distinction.

Director of Sixth Form, Gill Prichard said ‘It’s been a busy year for everyone in all sorts of aspects. Our Sixth Form Football Team were County Champions this year winning all of their matches. Luke Moynan stood for the Youth Parliament and was elected. Then our debating team won the regional finals, went to Liverpool Hope University to represent the County in the national finals and two students were selected to represent the UK in the European debates. Now the team work and excellent working relationships between staff and students have culminated in a set of excellent results. It has been really rewarding to see our students do so well academically whilst also enjoying the challenges of other opportunities. I feel confident that they will be a great success with their individual plans for the future.’
