Liskeard School Young Enterprise Students

A young group of enterprising students from Liskeard School and Community College have recently been recognised for their business skills and resilience by a panel of top Cornish businessmen and women. Fantasy Trading Cards Cornwall, a Young Enterprise Company, were awarded the ‘Special Recognition Award’ at the Young Enterprise Innovation Awards in Penzance in May.

The Science Department at Liskeard School has once again been celebrating National Science Week in style.  This year, to mark National Demo Day, 86 Year 4 and 5 students were treated to an interactive demo session on the theme of ‘Change’.  After measuring how much their pulse changed during exercise, the students observed Mr Inger dissecting an Ox heart.  Following on from this, students learned about how the energy in the food they eat is changed into energy which can be used by the cells in their body; they burned Monster Munch and Wotsits to measure the energy released and Mr Inger burned giant methane fireballs to demonstrate the energy released during combustion.  This was all brought together through the annihilation of a Jelly Baby which was reacted with oxygen to demonstrate the true reaction which releases energy in every cell.  The year 4 and 5 students were supported by our very professional and knowledgeable team of Liskeard Science Leaders.  An entertaining morning was had by all and our visitors went back to their primary schools buzzing with excitement.

Cultivate Cornwall CIC, is locally based, non-profit social enterprise set up by young people in Cornwall. We are running a fundraising campaign over the summer to help increase the mobility of young disadvantaged people in Cornwall.

We are asking for as much support from the local community as possible in order to increase the impact of the campaign and benefit as many young and disadvantaged people in our community as possible. By increasing mobility you will be helping; raise aspirations, increase intercultural leaning and add value to the lives of young disadvantaged people in Cornwall, many of whom have still never even visited a beach!

Liskeard School and Community College students continued their superb performances and successes in rowing at the South West Regional Rowing Finals at Marjons. Liskeard finished third overall which is a superb achievement and adds to the title of County Champions achieved in the 2016/17 rowing season. The boys team finished in 2nd overall place in the combined boys events.

Year 7 students from Liskeard School and Community College organised a collection in aid of the homeless in the South West. Students did a superb job filling three large bags of soap and personal hygiene items, as well as large bags of food, hat’s, scarves, gloves and four bin bags of quilts, sleeping bags, blankets and coats.
