Forty Students from Liskeard School and Community College’s Arts Faculty recently travelled to London for what has now become an annual visit to some of the country’s top galleries and theatres. Students experienced extremely full days of exploration including the Victoria and Albert Museum, Harrods, the Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre, the Tate Modern, a boat trip along the Thames, a 4D cinema experience and some shopping time in Covent Garden.

Local policeman, PC Turner Moore, recently arranged a Hate Crime workshop for students in Years 7 to 9 at Liskeard School & Community College. The workshop explained what hate crime is, its effect on people’s lives, what constitutes a Hate Crime offence and how to report it. The students heard from two guest speakers who had been victims of Hate Crime.

The National Citizen Service, the UK’s flagship youth programme for 16 and 17 year olds, has again named Liskeard School and Community College a ‘Champion School’ after being selected from thousands of schools participating across the country. The school has excelled at motivating students to take up extracurricular activities, specifically encouraging young people to attend the four week programme during their holidays, leading to an increased interest in volunteering.

Liskeard School & Community College has been selected to appear in the 2015/16 edition of The Parliamentary Review. Established by former minister The Rt Hon David Curry shortly after the 2010 general election, The Parliamentary Review’s September release has become a key fixture in the political calendar.

The school was delighted to welcome The Worshipful the Mayor of Liskeard, Councillor Pascoe and The Rt Hon Sheryll Murray MP to the school to mark the occasion and discuss the review with the students that appeared in it.

Year 7 Liskeard School students recently travelled to Porthpean Outdoor Education Centre near St Austell to undertake their residential experience. Students enjoyed three days and two nights forging new friendships with their peers, peer mentors, sixth formers and tutor group leaders, being challenged both physically and mentally.

The food, supplied and cooked by the camp staff, was wholesome and filling, and included a traditional roast beef with Yorkshire puddings. Considering the exertion involved in all the activities, this proved to be welcome.
