Cornwall School Games

Liskeard School & Community College hosted the Cornwall School Games recently after inclement weather imposed cancellations on a number of primary events at the Games hosted by Bude and Launceston. Liskeard School was happy to step in and host the rearranged games a week later at very short notice so that primary students across the county would still get the chance to compete and have their day.

Challenge Week

Liskeard School and Community College recently held its annual Challenge Week for students in year 7, 8, and 9. There were an array of activities aimed at challenging students both physically and mentally in locations inside the school, in the community and further afield.

Activities included adrenaline sports, Brazilian Jujitsu, chef school, science challenges, woodwork, golf, humanities challenges, media, mountain biking, riding schools, scuba diving, skiing, summer sports, surf school and even a trip to France!

Awards Evening

Liskeard School and Community College and Liskeard Sixth Form celebrated its third annual Awards Evening, a prestigious evening to celebrate the successes and achievement of students across a range of categories.

The invitation only event, held in the New Hall, was attended by students from all year groups, proud parents, staff and members of the community to recognise the wonderful efforts of students across the academic year.

Bridge Graduation

The first ever Bridge Academy Graduation took place on Friday 21st July in the Devonport Guildhall.  Camron Smith, Liam Heard, Josh Ryan and Jake Reeve were presented with their graduation certificates and folders commemorating their year by Lindsey Hall, Director of the Real Ideas Organisation (RIO).

The group are the first graduates of a pioneering new course run by RIO in conjunction with Liskeard School and Community College.  The course takes sixteen-year olds who are not sure of their next steps and direction after finishing school at sixteen and sets them up with a range of opportunities to network with businesses and social enterprizes in Devon and Cornwall, running events, creating products and ultimately setting up their own small social enterprize initiatives.  The year has seen the young men achieve great things: communicating and public speaking, budgeting and controlling finances, using their imagination and creating new products, and engaging with a whole host of different people and employment areas.  They have all grown as individuals in a variety of ways, crossing new boundaries and making significant personal growth as individuals.

Work Experience

Students at Liskeard School & Community College have had another fantastic year of work experience opportunities. Year 10 and 12 students have returned to school full of their own stories and ideas about what sort of career lies ahead of them.

Local employers have once again done our community proud with students working with them in a variety of industries, giving them a real taste of what the world of work is actually like.
