Liskeard School and Community College recently turned into the ‘School of Rock’, with an ambitious full school production of the show being performed to a delighted audience.

‘School of Rock’ was the first rock musical production that the Performing Arts team at Liskeard School had undertaken, with students from years 8 to 13 involved. 

Year 8 students at Liskeard School & Community College recently promoted Cornish culture as part of the annual Liskeard Lights Up festival, by creating a Cornish language display in The Book Shop.

Community organisation Golden Tree, which promotes Cornish language and culture, asked students to get involved, and to incorporate the Cornish language into the window display. The students learnt and then wrote the words onto the ivy leaves in the display.

For the first time, Liskeard School and Community College joined with Morley Tamblyn Lodge to produce a drama production, performing Alice in Wonderland.

Year 10 Vocational Studies students at Liskeard School helped by acting, supporting with props, music and lighting, producing the programme and assisting the caretakers with the car parking.  This ensured the smooth running of the production.

This year’s Young Enterprise team, made up of nine year 10 students, recently travelled to Cornwall Services for their first trade fair of the year and experienced first-hand what it is like to sell products to the public. – the name of the team - have been working on their product since October and have decided to develop a product range of mobile device accessories. Even in the early stages, the team managed to develop a prototype to show to customers at the trade fair and gain invaluable market research about their product range.

Local sports star Merryn Doidge has recently been selected to be part of the England Under 18’s Rugby Talented Development Group.

Merryn developed her rugby skills at club level and during her time at Liskeard School and Community College. From the age of six she played mixed rugby with the boys. Then at the Under 13 stage she moved to girls’ rugby. Merryn started off at Newquay Queen Bees before moving to Liskeard Looe in 2015, also playing at county level, she was selected for the South West Under 15 squad and competed in the National Schools Finals in 2016. Merryn is now attending Exeter College where she studies sports and exercise science and is part of the Exeter Chiefs Women’s Rugby Academy.
