Over fifty students and several staff performed a superb rendition of the popular musical Bugsy Malone to capacity audiences at Liskeard School & Community College before Christmas.  It was a terrifically lively performance that was enjoyed by all and was the culmination of months of hard work and dedication by students and Creative and Performing Arts staff.

Liskeard School and Community College were privileged to work with Tam Fowles from Hope in the Heart, a not-for-profit social enterprise based in Cornwall, to be the first school in Cornwall to host the international exhibition Anne Frank: A History for Today. Liskeard was selected as one of only two schools in the South West to pilot the Anne Frank School’s project that has been running across the country for the last 25 years.

Liskeard School and Community College continued their drive to promote the importance of democracy and to engage young people with politics as they welcomed Liberal Democrat Leader Tim Farron and Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for South East Cornwall, Phil Hutty, as part of Mr Farron’s three day visit to Cornwall.

Liskeard School continues to promote Electronics and Engineering as 12 electronics students visited Bodmin College to build, programme and test their own robots in conjunction with the Royal Academy of Engineering and Bodmin College. Students spent a day learning how to use robots controlled from Arduino circuits. The robots were programmed and controlled via Bluetooth using an App on Android mobile phones. The focus of this visit was to study the use of microcontrollers and to learn how to programme electronic circuits.

Liskeard School GCSE engineering students went on an industrial visit to Teagle near Redruth to see first-hand how a local engineering manufacturing company produces large scale mass produced products. Teagle is a ‘Land based’ engineering company that design and manufacture agricultural machinery such as cattle feeding/bedding machines, muck spreaders and mowing machines, to name but a few.
