Welcome to  'SLUGS' (School's Little Ukulele Group) ... a newly formed group of ukulele enthusiasts. We meet every Thursday lunchtime and, as you can see, we are open to both students and staff! Apparently, the word 'Ukulele' means 'Jumping Flea' in Hawaii.

Just before Easter we held a Y6 maths morning for pupils from our feeder primary schools. We had over 20 attend the morning session. A variety of activities were completed by the pupils. These included investigating a series of jumps and slides made by blue and green flags - not literal ones though! We also looked at predicting the moves made when increasing the number of blue or green frogs or both. The pupils also investigated the Towers of Hanoi and were introduced to the concepts of exponential growth in the numbers of moves needed per extra disc.

On 24th and 25th March we took a road trip up to the University of Warwick with the year 12 further mathematicians. The students had their first real taste of university life. We were met by one of the student ambassadors who gave us a tour of the university. We were visiting the maths and statistics department and had a couple of lectures. These were very informative on the courses that are available, as well as studying away from home and living independently.

GCSE Drama students recently performed their scripted pieces to an audience of friends, relatives and Mr Lingard!  The performances were an eclectic mix of the funny, entertaining, moving and thought provoking. All the students performed incredibly well and parents commented on how much they had enjoyed the evening.  Ms Farrow and I also enjoyed watching the pieces and were really proud of the students.  Mrs Crawshaw.

Two of our Music teachers, Judy Whitlock and Steven Lunn, have composed pieces of music for performance by the prestigious Plymouth Symphony Orchestra this coming week.

Judy Whitlock's 'Dartmoor Letterboxes' was commissioned by the orchestra in 2002 and is being performed again this summer. The music for full orchestra portrays 7 Dartmoor Tors, and also features a linking 'Walking Theme' to be performed (at Sterts) by 5 of our school's young flute players.
