The National Citizen Service, the UK’s flagship youth programme for 16 and 17 year olds, has again named Liskeard School and Community College a ‘Champion School’ after being selected from thousands of schools participating across the country. The school has excelled at motivating students to take up extracurricular activities, specifically encouraging young people to attend the four week programme during their holidays, leading to an increased interest in volunteering.

Liskeard School & Community College has been selected to appear in the 2015/16 edition of The Parliamentary Review. Established by former minister The Rt Hon David Curry shortly after the 2010 general election, The Parliamentary Review’s September release has become a key fixture in the political calendar.

The school was delighted to welcome The Worshipful the Mayor of Liskeard, Councillor Pascoe and The Rt Hon Sheryll Murray MP to the school to mark the occasion and discuss the review with the students that appeared in it.

Year 7 Liskeard School students recently travelled to Porthpean Outdoor Education Centre near St Austell to undertake their residential experience. Students enjoyed three days and two nights forging new friendships with their peers, peer mentors, sixth formers and tutor group leaders, being challenged both physically and mentally.

The food, supplied and cooked by the camp staff, was wholesome and filling, and included a traditional roast beef with Yorkshire puddings. Considering the exertion involved in all the activities, this proved to be welcome.

Aden Pike, a Teaching Assistant at Liskeard School recently gained a place on the WKU England Karate Team to compete in Orlando, Florida, for the WKU World Karate Championships which took place in September.

Liskeard School held a dress down day to raise money for Aden. The money raised went towards the training and entry fees as well as helping Aden get to America to compete.

The Cornwall and Isle of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) have been commissioned to consult with young people regarding their Strategic Economic Plan for Cornwall.

At the consultation event, students at Liskeard School and Community College and three other schools in Cornwall had the opportunity to put forward their ideas regarding the future of Cornwall and their part in it.  They met with representatives from Cornish businesses and discussed economic decisions and priorities, also sharing their aspirations for their lives and careers in Cornwall to 2030 and beyond.
