Dear Parents/Carers

As I am sure you are aware, over the last few years, there has been a change in the way GCSEs are implemented and the grading system that accompanies it, with a move from letter to number grades.  This has been a phased process and Business is part of the last phase, meaning your child will be in the first cohort of students to take the new style Business examination in 2019.

As part of the change, the Edexcel exam board that we use for Business have recently produced a number of sample assessment questions and other resources.  Over the next year, they will collate student responses to these questions and use them to produce mock examination reports which give commentaries and feedback to selected answers and provide guidance for teachers, students, and parents.  They will also be used for training purposes and events.

I am pleased to say that as a Business department, I have been approached by Edexcel to work with them in helping produce these materials and provide student responses to their sample questions.  As part of your child’s recent Business assessment, they were given some questions from Edexcel’s sample set which I would now like to send off to Edexcel for the purposes described above.  Additionally, I would also like to send off any other future student responses they may complete in the future that will be useful for these purposes.  Please be aware of the following from Edexcel:

  • Pearson Edexcel can make use of your child’s work, which may include copying, marking, amending and/or supplying commentaries.
  • We can use the work for teacher training, exemplification of standards, moderator or examiner support, student guidance or any other training and development purpose.
  • We can use the work in any format, including publishing it on the Edexcel Website, in training materials or reports
  • You will not be able to withdraw your consent once you have signed this form.

Students’ names need to be provided with the answer for administration purposes, however, please be aware that should your child’s answers be used as outlined above, they will be fully anonymous and names will not appear in any materials.  It will not even be clear which school the answer came from.

Should you wish for your child’s answers from this or any other assessment to not be used for this purpose, please let me know either via the school reception and leaving a message with them or by emailing naaird@liskeard.cornwall.sch.uk by Friday 12 January 2018.  Your child’s answers will, of course, still be marked by me as part of their assessment if you choose to not give permission.  If you would like any further information, or examples of how your child’s answers may be used, please do not hesitate to contact me via the same methods.

Yours sincerely,

Mr. N Aird

Teacher of Business
