Mr Alex Lingard BSc (Hons)
Head Teacher

This week we welcome 40 Year 6 students who are joining us for two weeks in preparation for their official start in September. During their two weeks they will be taking part in lots of activities to develop their literacy and numeracy skills. They will also be getting to know each other and the school, so that when they come back in September they will be confident and keen to show others around.

On 29th June it is induction day for all the year 6s. We have 180 students joining this year, which is the most we've had in 5 years!

I remember when I started teaching that the summer term used to be a term when you'd start to unwind after all the examinations. This is certainly not the case anymore! With only 5 weeks left we have loads to get through before the holidays arrive. There some great events coming up: a mock EU referendum, Challenge Week, Sports Day, Awards Evening, Music Day, The Liskeard Show, the Year 11 and Year 13 Leavers' Balls and much, much more.

It's going to be a busy, but a very enjoyable end to the year!

As I’m sure you are aware the government intends for every school to become an academy within the next few years and to work collaboratively with other schools in ‘multi-academy trusts’ (MATs). This has been knowledge for some time and, as mentioned previously, we have been exploring various options over the last 12 months. We are very keen to work with localprimary and secondary schools and are hoping to form a MAT within South-east Cornwall. The benefits of doing this will mean we can share expertise, support each other and combine resources.

Working closely with the local primary schools we have put together a series of master classes for the brightest students in years 4 and 5. Wendy Birkbeck, Assistant Head Teacher, not only oversees all the work we do in school for our 'most able' pupils, but is also in charge of the primary to secondary transition programme.

I've mentioned previously about our invitation to take part in the 2016 Parliamentary Review. As you know we are 1 of only 12 schools across the country to be selected. All 12 schools are considered to be 'outstanding or considerably improving'.
