Mr Alex Lingard BSc (Hons)
Head Teacher

With the written exams in full flow I just wanted to wish all our brilliant students the very best wishes in their exams. I am really proud of the hard work and resilience they have shown throughout the year. Getting students ready for the exam season is a big operation and I'd like to thank all the teachers, support staff and parents for their amazing dedication and commitment to the students and the school. It really is a team effort. #TeamLiskeard

The Autumn term has seen the introduction of our new school badge which highlights our team approach and belief that every student matters and has a role to play. As you know, our ethos and team spirit was recognised at a national level in the Parliamentary Review in September. This term we have also been focussing on enabling all students to get on with their learning straight away with ‘Do Now’ tasks at the start of every lesson and ‘arrow’ work, designed to encourage students to stretch themselves and aspire to do even better. Our Football Academy has reached the 6th round of the national cup and our rowers have just become County champions! We’ve been awarded ‘Champion School’ status by the National Citizen Service for the second time and we have 3 candidates put themselves forward to be members of the Youth Parliament. The local community and local businesses have kindly donated funding to enable our technology department to purchase a 3D printer and the kit needed to take part in the Greenpower Go-Kart Challenge. We’ve become an Associate School for the Royal Shakespeare Company and are proud to have a World Karate Champion as a member of our staff.

Liskeard students and parents have been embracing the mannequin challenge that is currently sweeping the nation. The first challenge was met by students on the Millennium Bridge during their Art Trip to London. Not wanting to be criticised by the younger generation for not keeping up with the times, I decided to challenge parents, grandparents, students and teachers to strike a celebratory pose at the GCSE Celebration Evening for the Class of 2016 last week. How everyone kept so still, for so long, I have no idea! The challenges are available to view on the website or via our Facebook page.

It was a real delight to catch up with the Class of 2016 at the GCSE Celebration Evening last night. Most students are, of course, still with us in our sixth form, but many returned having left a few months ago to catch up with old friends and teachers. It was an informal evening with a great atmosphere. Thank you to Chartwells who put on a delicious buffet and to Ms Penberthy & Ms Brown for organising the event.

Since being appointed as Head Teacher I have been actively promoting a team spirit across the school. The importance of co-operating and being kind and supportive to others doesn’t need to be explained. I truly believe that students and staff achieve more together than in isolation. Such a culture in school helps create good citizens, who will impact on society in a positive way. I therefore thank you for your support in helping us promote such an ethos.
