Alex-Lingard-Head-Teacher

Mr Alex Lingard BSc (Hons)
Head Teacher

We have introduced a simple strategy to all of our Y10 and Y11 students, which can easily be used by all the students, called ‘545’, to help with revision and embed key knowledge. 545 stands for 5 cards for 5 days and requires students to make 5 very simple ‘flash cards’ every week day. The cards have a question written on one side and the answer on the reverse. Once made, students learn the answers then lay all 25 cards out on the table. Parents, siblings or friends then test the student on each card, putting the ones they got right in one pile and ones they get wrong in another. These ones, then get revised again.

Many thanks to those of you who responded to our communication survey. The results are both interesting and very useful. We didn’t realise quite how many of you use social media to keep up to date with the school’s news and events. One of the requests from parents is to receive more ‘live’ action in terms of the things that are going on in school. This is something we will be looking into over the next few weeks.

It has been a privilege this week to present a number of students with badges to recognise their commitment as student leaders. As you know there are a number of student leadership opportunities within school and it is encouraging to see so many students take advantage of these positions. Leadership skills are a huge asset in today’s society and I know all our student leaders will not only give something back to the school community, but will benefit from it themselves. If any more students would like to take on a leadership role they should speak with their tutor or see Ms Birkbeck.

We were delighted to welcome the Mayoress of Liskeard, Councillor Jane Pascoe and the Rt Hon Sheryll Murray MP to school last week to celebrate with students our inclusion in the Parliamentary Review and the announcement that we have been named as Champion School by the National Citizen Service. Look out for the photos on our website, in the local press and on our social media pages. And if that wasn’t enough, our 6th formers were treated to a motivational talk this week by Olympic diver, Sarah Barrow!

So important is our belief in team work and 'achieving more together' the school has ordered Team Liskeard badges for every student. Once issued, students will wear them on the left lapel of their blazer as part of their uniform.  I'm sure they will wear them with pride when they arrive.

It is important to recognise students who go the extra mile to help their peers and their community. To this end we have also ordered additional badges for students who have won an award at one of our prestigious Awards’ Evenings and some Student Leader badges for those who hold a position of responsibility e.g. Peer Mentors, School Council Reps, Personnel Leaders, ALC Helpers, Young Enterprise Leaders, Digital Leaders.
