Mr Alex Lingard BSc (Hons)
Head Teacher

As I’m sure you are aware the government intends for every school to become an academy within the next few years and to work collaboratively with other schools in ‘multi-academy trusts’ (MATs). This has been knowledge for some time and, as mentioned previously, we have been exploring various options over the last 12 months. We are very keen to work with localprimary and secondary schools and are hoping to form a MAT within South-east Cornwall. The benefits of doing this will mean we can share expertise, support each other and combine resources.

The process of becoming an academy involves consultation with staff, parents and the local community. This takes place after a school submits an application to become an academy and receives what is known as an ‘academy order’. Funding is then provided by the Department for Education to enable schools to pay for the conversion.

We are in the process of applying for an academy order. Once this is granted the consultation and due diligence will take place. We are not going to rush this process as we want to ensure it is right for the school and the students in our community. At any point, if we are not happy with the MAT that we are forming, we can decide not to proceed any further.

I will, of course, keep you updated as things move on.
