Mr Alex Lingard BSc (Hons)
Head Teacher

We recently welcomed the local candidates standing for the general election to a hustings event in our sixth form centre. Students from Years 10 to 13 were given the opportunity to hear from each of the candidates then ask questions about matters that were important to them. Ms Prichard, Assistant Head teacher and Director of Sixth Form hosted the occasion and would clearly give David Dimbleby a run for his money given half the chance! Issues such as tuition fees, Trident, local employment, lowering the voting age to 16 were all discussed along with why they each decided to go into politics. It was a great event and with recent reports of only 40% of young people intending to vote we hope it inspired the next generation to vote in future elections.

Next week we will hold our own mock election with students voting for one of the local candidates. During tutor time this week and next students will discuss the general election and what each of the candidates are standing for. On general election day students will receive their polling card and go along to the ALC to cast their vote and place it in the ballot box. We will then announce our winner on Friday morning!
