Mr Alex Lingard BSc (Hons)
Head Teacher

Despite the rain we had hundreds of prospective students and their parents come along to our open evening on Wednesday. It was wonderful to see and meet so many people who had come in to look at what Team Liskeard has to offer. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive and I must thank the staff and the fabulous students for putting on a great event.

It's been a busy start to the new academic year. Our new students have settled in extremely well thanks to our fabulous peer mentors and tutors. I'm sure they are going to enjoy the next 7 years with us!

The big message to everyone this year is to show courage, resilience and kindness. We want students to THINK BIG: having high aspirations and not being afraid to make mistakes; WORK HARD: believing we all can improve by putting in the effort and overcoming difficulties; and to HELP OTHERS: supporting classmates and looking out for those in need. With these attitudes anything is possible.

With the ongoing reforms to GCSE and A Levels, I just want to advise parents about the information provided within the Progress Checks. Like all schools, we are feeling our way through the new GCSE grading system working out what each grade 'looks like' in terms of the work students produce. With limited information from the exam boards this is not easy and is something we are spending alot of time on. Given there is a degree of uncertainty, please focus your attention on the attitude scores and next step comments provided in the Progress Checks, rather than the current and forecast grades. If students are working hard (scoring 1s and 2s) and following the advice given, they will do well no matter who they are or what their target grades are.

I was immensely proud of our Young Enterprise Students for their success in the county finals last month. Not only did they perform superbly well in front of a panel of judges and at their trade stand promoting their Fantasy Trading Card Game, they were recognised for their amazing resilience and team work over the last 8 months. This won them the Young Enterprise Cornwall Board Special Recognition Award! The students represented the school exceptionally well and certainly learnt alot from the experience. Huge thanks to Mr Aird for supporting and guiding them along the way. #TeamLiskeard

Double success for Liskeard footballers as we became county champions for both our youngest and oldest students recently! The first crown was for our U12 girls' team beating Mounts Bay in the final. The second victory was for our U18 Football Academy against Truro School. Two amazing scalps as we dominated both games. Huge congratulations to all the students involved and to the PE staff (and Plymouth Argyle coaches) for their inspirational leadership. To have the best football teams in Cornwall is something to shout about! #TeamLiskeard
