Liskeard Sixth Form are celebrating the success of Luke Moynan, a Year 12 student, who was recently voted the East Cornwall Representative in the UK Youth Parliament. Luke, voted the candidate for Liskeard, enjoyed a day at Truro County Hall working with candidates across Cornwall to develop manifesto points, meet with current representatives and record a campaign video.

Throughout the following week, Luke visited other secondary schools, speaking in assemblies and school council meetings. Luke had to explain why he wanted to run in the election, what he was standing for and also encourage other students to get involved and vote!

The results were announced at the Liskerrett Centre, with a live stream on Facebook with Luke receiving 2,095 votes of just over 4,000 cast.

Luke is really looking forward to the opportunity of representing11 to 18 year olds in Cornwall.

Head of Liskeard Sixth Form Mrs Prichard said, “This will be a wonderful experience for Luke, especially as he hopes to go onto study Politics in the future and as we continue our drive to get young people into politics.”

Sixth Form student Luke Moynan said “It has been a great experience, especially as I hope to go on to Study Politics at University.”
