Liskeard School and Community College Year 9 student Cara Collins was recently part of history as Cornwall Under 18 Badminton competed at the National Inter Counties Tournament. Cara, who is ranked 4th in the Under 15’s nationally in badminton, was part of the Cornwall team and played superbly throughout.

Cara played in all 9 Under 18 matches over the 4 days and played the maximum of 2 events in each match winning 15 out of 18 matches.  She won all her single matches including beating some very highly graded and ranked Under 18 players.  Cara is an E grade and currently ranked 86 out of every woman who plays and is registered with badminton England.  As well as beating fellow E grade players, she also beat a D grade 17 year old ranked 43 in the country and a C grade 17 year old ranked 41 in England.

Due to her outstanding play many England team players are asking to partner Cara.  She has also been invited to play in the Glasgow International by a number of England players who are putting together teams for the team and individual events.

Caras mum Clare said “We would like to take this opportunity to thank Liskeard School for supporting Cara in trying to fulfil her dreams, especially Miss Dunkey and Mr Conroy who go the extra mile to encourage Cara and help her to develop her personal fitness and skills.”
