For the past two terms over sixty more able Year 4 and 5 students from local primary schools have attended over six different master classes at Liskeard School. According to one Year 5, learning about chemical reactions in science ‘made my brain hurt.’ Students applied their understanding to produce a test tube of rainbow colours which was great to see. In computer science students learned how to code and programmed both a tank and a drone to make manoeuvres of their choice! Spanish Café was definitely the tastiest of the master classes, with students working as a team to produce tasty plates of paella and then shortbread with ice cream. A Year 6 student summed this master class up in one word ‘Maravilloso!’

The purpose of the master classes has been to stretch the thinking of the brightest primary students and teach skills such as problem solving and teamwork with a ‘can do’ attitude. The master classes have been so successful we are planning on offering more in the next academic year, so watch this space for further updates!
