‘As well as recognising schools that make the arts come alive, the Artsmark award is a useful, practical and valuable tool for enriching a school’s arts provision and ensuring the myriad of benefits brought by the arts are infused across the curriculum and the school community.  It provides schools with access to high quality and practical resources and enviable networks that will enable them to use the arts to inspire learning and harness the power of the arts in developing happy, successful and confident young people’. Arts Council England.

We are tremendously proud of our Artsmark Gold award. It is testament to the hard work, energy and commitment that our community of staff, students and parents alike have put into making the arts continue to thrive here at Liskeard School and Community College.

In an increasingly accessible world of cultural multiplicity, we see our arts curriculum at Liskeard preparing young people with an appreciation of global diversity and a desire to celebrate cultural heritage. Through a knowledge and understanding of the historical and social context in which creative work has originated, pupils may better appreciate their ‘world’ and understand the responsibility of enriching culture through individual, as well as collective, creative endeavour. Through the development of specialist skills in the arts we enable our students to make meaning whilst communicating and expressing their ideas and emotional intelligence creatively and imaginatively.

The overriding aim of the creative arts is to foster a sense of curiosity, interest and enjoyment, of pride and ownership through the celebration of individual and collective creative endeavour. Through a knowledge and understanding of the creative past pupils may better appreciate and understand the potential for a rich, creative future. It is through practice in the arts we learn about ourselves by realising, locating and evaluating the products of our ideas, emotions and opinions within the environment. We develop our sense of place through the application of personal and social creative responsibility.
