Staff and students at Liskeard School & Community College recently took part in a number of activities to raise money for the communities affected by the devastating earthquakes in Nepal.

The fundraising began with staff and students participating in a whole school dress down day, contributions from which raised over £700.

Students also held a cake sale during break and lunch, selling home-made cakes. A huge thank you goes to Courtney Smith, Anna Billing, Ada-Mae Tasker, Ellye Ball, Elly Murchison, Akira Griffin, Macy Norman and Niomi Farley for raising over £70.

The week culminated in a Staff v Sixth Form Football Academy football match. There was a lot of support for the game from staff, students, parents and Liskeard Football Club for what became a hotly contested match. The Football Academy went in at half time 3-0 up only to see the staff pull it back in the second half and score a late equaliser with five minutes to go. The Football Academy went on to win the game on penalties and claim the bragging rights. More importantly £152.40 was raised for charity to take the total sent to Shelter Box over £900!

A spokesman for the school said “The devastating events in Nepal shocked people in the community of Liskeard and we are proud to have so many caring people come together to help make a difference to those affected.”
