“We made sixty second rockets on Wednesday. I did it with Miss Higman. We used Alka-Seltzer, water, vinegar and baking soda. Our experiments flopped severely; in five successful launches it overall reacted about 1.5 metres and overall less than 25 seconds. As Geoff Boycott would have put it – it was “roobish”! It was enjoyable.

“We mixed bicarbonate of soda and vinegar together to try and make a sixty second rocket. After a while of failed attempts (none went airborne) we put in lots of bicarb and shook it after mixing it with vinegar. It again didn’t go airborne but fizzed everywhere! I enjoyed seeing the chemical reaction and watching it fizz and pop before splattering everyone in a one metre radius. I would definitely do it again as it was fun!”
