Once again the Science Department at Liskeard School and Community College have embraced National Science and Engineering Week in spectacular style with their annual Science Show. This year the show was hosted by Mr Inger and the newest member of the team, Mr Trudgett. The two hour long show was dynamic and interesting and featured lots of new experiments alongside some of our regular favourites.

The pair started on the theme of energy by demonstrating the effects of cooling using liquid nitrogen. Several lucky audience members were able to try a cryogenically frozen Wotsit or some ice-cream made with liquid nitrogen. Next came heating, which saw the effects of overcoming the activation energy of chemical mixes to make them burn and explode in almighty bangs and flashes; the audience sat in awe as giant fireballs rose above their heads and as bottles loaded with rocket fuel were sent flying across the stage. This year we welcomed a new star of the show, Science Stig, who flew in briefly to brave the ignition of gun cotton on his head! We hope to welcome him back next year… The show ended in a spectacular style with exploding balloons set to Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture.
