Liskeard students have been discussing democracy and voting by engaging with the Cornwall Youth Parliament elections. As a school we had the second highest percentage of students voting out of every secondary school in Cornwall, gaining Liskeard a Bronze Democracy Award!

Two of the East Cornwall candidates visited Liskeard, talking to students across all year groups about their views on voting and their campaign priorities. The event was filmed for ITV West Country News and aired last week, all students spoke articulately, asking question and giving their views. Nick an A-level student said ‘the event really shed light on the youth of our school, as I saw their political minds come alive; their intellectual and gruelling questions kept the candidates on their toes’

Meeting the candidates was an excellent experience for all students involved, I hope to see Liskeard students standing for election in 2017!
