About us:

Our school is situated in the historic market town of Liskeard, which is central to Cornwall’s outstanding south eastern countryside and coastline, serving the beautiful rural villages and hamlets and is just a scenic, 30-minute drive from Plymouth.

Assessed by Ofsted in March 2020 as a good school, we are an inclusive secondary community school delivering Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 to 1,100 students aged 11-18 and of mixed ability.

We are an academy school and part of the South East Cornwall Multi Academy Regional Trust (SMART), which provides for outstanding local career opportunities, excellent professional development opportunities and access to expert support, advice, guidance and knowledge pooling from fellow practitioners in our partner schools.

About the position:

The Trustees of SMART warmly welcome applications from self-motivated individuals who share our values and ethos and our passion for achieving the very best outcomes for all learners.

Our school is very well resourced through our commitment to provide outstanding opportunities for learning, including through subject expert teachers, well-appointed classrooms, laboratories and workshops, extensive sports facilities and wide access to IT; maintaining and further developing the estate, infrastructure and facilities is therefore key to enabling the learning and achieving the very best educational outcomes.

We are therefore keen to engage a professional practitioner that can provide the best possible learning environment for all of our students, and for those pupils at the other schools that our service supports.  Please read carefully the job description and the required personal attributes and let us know through your supporting statement why you believe you are the ideal professional for this role.

Though primarily based at Liskeard School and Community College, the role requires regular travel to service our Trust schools and other sites.

Governor advert April 2020

We currently have vacancies on our Local Governing Committees for Co-Opted and Parent Governors.

Being a school governor is a challenging but hugely rewarding role. It will give you the chance to make a real difference to young people, give something back to your local community and use and develop your skills in a board-level environment. You will also be joining the largest volunteer force in the country.

Schools need governing committees that have a balance and diversity of knowledge, skills and experience to enable them to be effective. Ofsted (the national inspection body for schools) has repeatedly noted that the most effective schools demonstrate effective leadership and management – including by the governing committee.

Anyone aged over 18 can be a governor (but there are some exceptions) and you do not need to be a parent. There is no requirement for you to have an understanding of the education system, just the necessary skills, character and time to contribute. Schools need and benefit from a range of professional knowledge on their governing committee including education, finance, human resources, legal, marketing and public relations, property and estates management, and organisational change.

Governors can expect to attend around 6 meetings per year, held either in the afternoon or the early evening.

If you would like to discuss the role informally in the first instance, please contact the Clerk to Governors Kate Williams by email –
