We are a friendly and inclusive department who link extensively with local primary and secondary schools and are renowned within the county for our leadership and sporting excellence.

We pride ourselves in the range of sporting opportunities that we offer our students both within the curriculum and outside of it. In the past five years alone we have travelled far and wide with our students. We have been to Barcelona and the Nou Camp, the London Olympics and Paralympics, The ATP Tennis World Tour Finals, Wimbledon, The Eindhoven Cup, The Rugby World Cup Finals, Queens Park Olympic Hockey (The Champions Cup), Twickenham  (Autumn Internationals) as well seeing as the England Women’s Cricket Team in a One Day International. We have also had visits from Paralympic Athletes David Hill and David Wetherill, Golf Pro Jason Avery, Rugby Coach Mike Smith and Cricket Coach Jack Mingo.

In terms of sporting success, 2016-17 has been another excellent year for Liskeard students:

Our Rowing Team won the Cornwall School Games and were Regional Finalists, coming 2nd in the South West. With our Project Ability teams leading the medals table at both. Football has continued to flourish with our U18 Football Academy Team retaining their County Title. Not to be outdone by the boys, our U12 Girls also won their first county title and we are proud once again to strengthen our links with Plymouth Argyle as we welcome back Jason Chapman to our coaching staff. In 2016 our U15 Girls became County and Regional Rugby Champions and went on to represent the West at the National Finals in Coventry, where they eventually finished 9th in the country. In Hockey, our U13 Boys’ reached the South West Finals at Millfield School and our U16 Mixed Hockey Team reached the Cornwall School Games Finals. Our U13 Girls Cricket Team won the Chance to Shine Cricket Finals. In Netball our Year 8’s, 9’s and 10’s all reached the North Cornwall Finals after performing impressively in the East Cornwall leagues. Our KS3 and 4 Girls Badminton teams both achieved bronze medals in the School Games Finals and our U13 Handball Team won silver and represented Cornwall at the regional finals. In addition to stand-out performances in a range of sports, numerous medals, trophies and county titles, there were also many gutsy performances which saw students recording personal bests as well as being fantastic ambassadors for the school. The behaviour at all competitions has been exemplary and the support for fellow athletes and performers has been excellent. Team spirit and teamwork is alive and well at LSCC.

The Dance department is pirouetting through the curriculum running the highly popular dance week, pupils have also attended Callington Dance Festival, visited the Theatre Royal Plymouth to see Cats, Billy Elliot and Sister Act, and also linked with professional dance companies including Cscape and SpinDriftDance.

Our sixth form students following the A Level PE and OCR Sport courses have had opportunities to visit both Marjons and Plymouth Argyle and complete physiological and biomechanical testing and this year achieved a fantastic 100% pass rate with 77% achieving A-C grades.

Student leadership at Liskeard School has gone from strength to strength. Student leaders have organised primary multi-sport festivals, umpired primary sports leagues, run activities in local primary schools and care facilities. They have been Games Makers at the Cornwall School Games and as a school we stepped in at very short notice to host the Cornwall School Primary Games, where our fantastic sixth form leaders and GLAMS team made sure that all the primary students from across the county had a highly enjoyable, competitive and unforgettable day.
